Speak is an iPhone/iPad app and a series of poems about place, voice, and the nature of poetry itself. The text of the original poem drifts around the screen, a disordered cloud of disconnected letters. When the reader touches the screen, a line of the poem will coalesce around the track of her finger as she drags it over the screen. In this way, the poem reveals itself in an intimate interaction with the reader, line by line. The texts were commissioned as part of the Poems for Excitable [Mobile] Media (P.o.E.M.M) project, which explores writing and reading paradigms for touch interaction in mobile environments.
